Privacy Policy

1. Information stored on your Mac

LumeTrace stores your workspace settings, file metadata, search indexes, vector indexes, version history, and related application data locally on your Mac. Your files remain in the folders you choose. LumeTrace does not operate a cloud service that receives or stores your workspace files.

You control these files and local application data through your device, storage, and operating-system permissions. Removing a workspace from LumeTrace does not necessarily delete its original files.

2. Optional AI features

AI features are optional. You may use a local model through supported software such as Ollama or LM Studio, or connect an external AI provider with credentials you supply.

When you use an external AI provider, your question and relevant file excerpts or context may be sent directly from LumeTrace to that provider. The provider handles that information under its own privacy policy and terms. Review those terms before enabling the service. LumeTrace does not control the provider’s collection, retention, or use of that information.

3. Website and downloads

This website does not use advertising trackers or analytics scripts. Standard server logs may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, requested page, referring page, and request time for security, reliability, and troubleshooting. These logs are retained only as needed to operate and protect the website.

Downloads and source code are provided through GitHub. GitHub may collect information when you visit its pages or download a release. See GitHub’s privacy statement for details.

4. Support information

If you contact the project through GitHub Issues or Discord, the service you use may process your account details and message. Information posted in a public issue is public. Do not include private files, API keys, passwords, or other sensitive information.

5. Sharing and disclosure

The LumeTrace project does not sell your personal information. Information may be disclosed when required by law, or when reasonably necessary to protect users, the project, or the public from fraud, abuse, security threats, or harm.

6. Data retention and deletion

Local data remains on your Mac until you remove it. You are responsible for managing and backing up your files. Information held by third-party services is subject to their retention and deletion controls. Website security logs are deleted or rotated when no longer needed for operation and security.

7. Security

LumeTrace uses reasonable safeguards appropriate to an open-source desktop application and website. No software, device, storage system, or network transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. Keep your Mac, backups, AI provider credentials, and local model software secure and up to date.

8. Children

LumeTrace is not directed to children under 13, and the project does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the application.

9. Changes to this policy

This policy may change as LumeTrace develops or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version. Material changes will be published on this page.

For privacy questions, open an issue in the LumeTrace GitHub repository. If your question contains sensitive information, ask for a private contact channel without posting the sensitive details.
